2019 Refugee Island Breakfast
Returning for its 6th year, Brockville’s Refugee Island Breakfast will be taking place again from Wednesday, June 19th to Saturday, June 22nd 2019!
The Island Breakfast is a popular tradition that has developed over the years for both Brockville residents and tourists. It takes place on Refugee Island, one of Brockville’s municipally owned islands. Refugee Island is a beautiful island situated on the east end of the 1000 Islands. It is available for boaters to picnic on during the summer season. However, for a few days during the summer, the Island Breakfast makes it possible for people who don’t own boats to visit an island!
For the four days the Island Breakfast will be running, shuttle boats will be running from 7:30am to 10:00 am. Breakfast will be served from 8:00am to 10:00am, and includes the following:
- coffee, tea or juice
- toast
- eggs
- bacon and ham
- baked beans
- pancakes
- locally produced maple syrup
- locally grown strawberries
There will also be entertainment on the island!
Wednesday, June 19th, 2019:
Wednesday is our Sponsor Appreciation Day, and there will not be any entertainment programming offered that day. However, you will still be able to explore the island.
Thursday, June 20th, 2019:
As mentioned in our previous blog post, George Fischer will be signing books! The books are available at the Brockville Tourism office for $39.95. We recommend purchasing your book in advance and bringing it to the island with you.
As well, the Brockville Museum will be offering guided walks around Refugee Island to learn more about the river and islands. For the children, there will be story time with the Brockville Public Library!
Friday, June 21st, 2019:
Brockville Museum will be offering their guided tours around the island to share about the islands and river history. The Brockville Public Library will be there to tell stories to the children on the island.
As well, to celebrate the beginning of summer and the summer solstice, Dale from Joyful Path Yoga will be offering a guided stretch and yoga session starting at 9am.
Saturday, June 22nd, 2019
Welcoming you to the island will be The Hoolies! They’re a music group with Irish whistles, recorders, guitars, mandolins, and a keyboard that specialize in Celtic airs and lively tunes. Also, the Brockville Public Library will be on the island reading stories for the children.
