Beat the Heat in Brockville
Don’t get us wrong, we love summer and warm weather… but it has been a hot one this past month! When it’s so hot outside that you can cook an egg or bake cookies in your car, it might be time to look for some activities that can help you cool down! Luckily, Brockville has many different options to help you stay cool during these crazy days of summer!
- The Brockville Public Library is an air-conditioned building which offers many activities, such as the summer reading club, knitting nights, book clubs, and even virtual reality. If you can stand the heat, the library also has geocaching kits and fishing equipment available to rent.
~ - The Aquatarium, The Brockville Museum , and Fulford Place Museum are air-conditioned buildings full of interesting and interactive exhibits. Wave hello to otter pups and learn more about the Thousand Islands region, or look at curious antiques such as a vintage hearse and the packaging for the famous Doctor William’s Pink Pills for Pale People, expanding your knowledge without breaking a sweat!
~ - With its lowest point being 17.5 metres under the ground’s surface, the Railway Tunnel may be one of the coolest places “outdoors”. Escape the harsh rays of the sun and spend some time walking through this historical tunnel. There’s also a chance you might get dripped on from water up above, so watch out for the splash zone!
~ - If you’d prefer to escape from the heat to the water, look no further than the DIVE shop! There, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and scuba diving equipment!
~ - Have fun and get active indoors at Stingers! Paintball, Airsoft, Laser tag, Batting Cages, Zorb Soccer, Pitching Mounds, and much more!
~ - A free, outdoor, all-hours way to beat the heat is the Rotary Park Splash Pad. Especially for smaller children who may not feel comfortable swimming, this is a wonderful alternative. It is 400 sq. metres and can be enjoyed safely by the whole family.
~ - If you’re looking for a unique experience, the Escape Room in the caboose by the railway tunnel is the perfect activity! Each game lasts 45 minutes and there can be up to 6 players. The caboose is air conditioned, so you won’t be distracted by the heat while solving the many puzzles and riddles that are part of the game.
~ - If you’ve got your boating license and are looking to escape to the river, Gilbert Marine offers rentals of houseboats and smaller boats. Rentals begin at only $75/day! Gilbert’s also rents out motors and trailers, if you need a bit of help getting your own boat back out into the water. Canoes and kayaks can also be rented if you do not have a license!
~ - If you want to take a refreshing river dip, there are a few favourite spots around the City to do just that! Jump (or walk in) at Centeen Park, sunbath and enjoy the beach at St. Lawrence Park, or check out Sanddocks Park to cool off!
~ - No hot summer day is complete without ice cream! Visit one of our many ice cream shops in downtown Brockville for the perfect sweet treat. Whether you prefer chocolate, fruit, or caramel flavours, we’ve got you covered! Just make sure to eat it quickly, before it turns into a soup or an accessory for your clothing.
