Skate at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area in Brockville

Enjoy Monday, February 15th with your family as you enjoy a day free from work and school. Family-friendly businesses and community groups around Brockville open their doors and invite you to share Family Day with them this year. From indoor to outdoor options, there are lots of activities to choose from around town this upcoming Monday.

Outdoors:

Mac Johnson Wildlife Area

Enjoy a day at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area with skating, skiing, snowshoeing, and a canteen available on site. There will be an individual distance challenge for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Admittance to the conservation area is free.

Area conditions as of Thursday, February 11 at 9 am: Outdoor rink is open and being cleared of snow – offering excellent ice surface conditions. All trails are in a natural state of fresh snowfall with a minimal base and 10 cm of fresh snow. General cross-country skiing conditions are good with the trails scheduled to be mechanically groomed on Friday morning.

Maitland Snowfest

Maitland Snowfest, held at MERC hall (120 East McLean Blvd.) will feature fun-filled winter activities including skating and hockey on the outdoor rink, cross-country skiing, a  bonfire and guided hikes of the trails. A loonie/toonie canteen with hotdogs, chili, hot chocolate and other goodies will be on site.

From noon to 2 pm enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides and catch a family movie and face painting in the hall starting at 2 pm

Explore Brockville’s Parks

Rotary Park in downtown Brockville, and Laurier Hill in the north end both feature outdoor skating and pick up hockey. with the fresh snow we have had over the past few days, there should also be some great tobogganing at Laurier Hill.

Indoors:

Brockville Public Library

Drop into library between 9 am and noon to play board games and enjoy snacks, tea, coffee, juice, and muffins. While you are there, pick up a collection of books, DVDs, and video games to enjoy at home.

Brockville Museum

The Brockville Museum is open for family day from 10am-5pm with admission by donation. Two new exhibits open on Monday including “Brockville’s Rail Story” and “Seeds in Disguise – The Biology and Lore of Ornamental Seeds”

BrockvilleYMCA

Come celebrate with your Y family – enjoy the day with your family with no entrance fee. Building hours are 8am-4pm

Family activities include: family gym 10am-3pm; family face painting 11am-1pm; family zumba 12-12:45pm

Free Family Skate

Enjoy free family day skating at the Brockville Memorial Centre from 1pm-3pm
